ABOUT US
Since 1934 Van Nest has been a cornerstone of this community, offering a place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life can grow in their faith in Jesus. Our rich history is woven into the fabric of this city, and we invite you to be a part of our story. We are the church that supports one another in prayer, reaches out to our neighbors with compassion, and welcomes all who enter. Join us as we celebrate our traditions while embracing the future together.
We're a Church That Believes...
- One True God There's only one God, expressed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19). He's all-knowing, all-powerful, and always present (John 8:54-59). He created everything (Genesis 1-2).
- The Bible: God's Word The Bible is God's inspired message to humanity (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21). It lays out God’s plan for our redemption and expresses his great love for us. It teaches us how to live lives that please him, and shows us how we can love others.
- A Messy Beginning Humans were originally created perfect (Genesis 2:26). But we messed up by choosing to disobey God (Genesis 3:6). This choice led to sin, separation from God, and death (Romans 5:12-19, Ephesians 2:11-18).
- God's Amazing Grace Jesus Christ is the only way to be restored to God (Acts 4:12, John 14:6). He died to pay the price for our sins (1 Peter 2:24). When we trust in Jesus, we become God's children (John 1:12).
What Happens When We Believe?
- We become God's temple (1 Corinthians 6:19).
- Our names are written in heaven's book of life (Revelation 3:5).
- We become citizens of heaven (Philippians 3:20-21).
- We receive eternal life (John 3:16).
- We're adopted into God's family (Galatians 4:4-7).
- Our sins are forgiven (Hebrews 8:12).
- We're made right with God (Romans 4:4-5).
- We're spiritually reborn (John 3:3).
- God claims us as His own (1 Corinthians 6:20).
- We inherit an eternal reward (Ephesians 1:13-14, 1 Peter 1:3-5).
- Proof of Faith We know we're saved because of the Holy Spirit's work within us (Romans 8:16) and the way we live (Galatians 5:22-23). We become new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17) and grow more like Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18).
- The Church: God's Family The Church is God's family (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). Our task is to share the good news (Acts 1:8, Mark 16:15-16), worship God (1 Corinthians 12:13), and help others grow in their faith (Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Corinthians 12:28, 14:12).
- The Holy Spirit's Power The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a godly life (Galatians 5:22-23) and serves different purposes within the Church (1 Corinthians 12:1-11). We should seek the Holy Spirit's gifts (1 Corinthians 12:31, 14:1) and use them in love (1 Corinthians 13:1-13, 14:26-33).
- The Final Judgment One day, everyone will stand before God to be judged (Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:1-9). Those who trust in Jesus will inherit eternal life (Revelation 20:11-15). Those who reject Him will face eternal punishment (Matthew 25:41).
We invite you to explore these beliefs further and to join us on this incredible journey of faith.
